As most climbers will know - safety is one of the most important things to consider. While testing the Mammut Skywalker Climbing Helmet, I was saved from a potentially life-threatening injury.

Before testing, I picked up an orange Mammut climbing helmet. The extreme sports helmet has a universal helmet size and the overall appearance is great, with nice bold colors.

I wanted to check how impact-resistant the climbing helmet was. I placed it on a foam-vinyl mannequin and dropped a brick from 2 meters above. The helmet deflected the brick and there was no damage to the mannequin. I did the same test from 3 meters and then 4 and the result was the same each time, with only a minor mark appearing on the helmet from the last test.

I kitted up and started my climb up a local cliff face and about 15 meters up my footing went wide and I was hurled in to the cliff face at an angle. The Mammut Skywalker did what it does best and absorbed the blow from the jagged rock edge to my side and protected my head from being severely damaged. This is the closest I've come to an injury and the Mammut kept me safe and unharmed throughout. One of the best climbing helmets around. Worth its 5 Pine rating.
